Helsungen is the name of an area that belongs to the city of Blankenburg . It lies in a sole on the Teufelsmauer between Blankenburg (Harz), Timmenrode , Westerhausen and the Blankenburg district of Börnecke .

history

The term Helsungen ("Hel sungen") means hell song in High German . Helsungen belonged to the Michaelstein Monastery as early as 1152 and was designated as an estate (dominicale, grangia) in 1173 and 1210 . At the time of the Reformation it was in the hands of a certain Hans Suttorf , commonly called Hans von Helsungen. In the following years around 1567 , the Helsungen estate changed between the Michaelstein monastery and the city council of Blankenburg.

In 1575 the council ceded the property to the Michaelstein monastery in exchange for the monastery wood Eichenberg , which was sold again to the council in 1589 . In the centuries that followed, there was constant reclamation and extraction of arable land up to the former village of Kallendorf and towards Heidelberg.

At the beginning of 2011, 22 residents lived in this area. The location and the landscape are attracting more and more people to go hiking. The restaurant Helsunger Krug deserves special mention . Nowadays the former manor is inhabited. The old walls are still well preserved.
