The grandfather , also known as grandfather rock, is about 317  m above sea level. NN high, striking rock formation at the western end of the Teufelsmauer in the northern Harz foreland near Blankenburg in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt . It is considered a landmark in Blankenburg.

A steep ascent that begins on the south side leads to Grandfather. The summit serves as a lookout point and is secured by railings. There is also a weather vane with the year 1998.

To the south of the grandfather is the Gasthaus Großvater , which is included as No. 76 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking nobility. From grandfather to the east, there are hiking trails that follow the ridge of the Teufelsmauer, including the ridge path that leads directly along the ridge.

A rock called Grandmother is located a little west of Grandfather.
