Penrose is a district of the former independent city of Auckland City on the North Island of New Zealand . On November 1, 2010, Auckland City became part of the Auckland Council along with other cities and districts in the Auckland region.
geography
The district is located around 8 km southeast of Auckland city center on Mangere Inlet , which is part of Manukau Harbor . It is bordered by Mt Wellinton to the east, Ellerslie and Greenlane to the north, One Tree Hill to the northwest, and Otanga , Onehunga and Te Papapa to the west .
The New Zealand State Highway 1 , highway within the city also is known as executed happened Penrose on its east side and connects the district with the center of the city in the northwest and the southern part of the former city of Manukau City , which is now as Manukau Ward out is also subordinate to the Auckland Council .
history
The Penrose area was first settled around 1860 after Auckland became New Zealand's capital in 1840 and expanded as a result. At that time Penrose was first used as a military base around which settlements gradually formed.
After 1920 Penrose became a location for various industrial companies such as mechanical engineering, boiler construction and shipbuilding. With the Industrial Efficiency Act , the government decided to settle decentralized industries for reasons of efficiency and Penrose was one of them. After the end of the Second World War , the government invested in the development of the industrial area in the Penrose district , so agricultural areas were quickly rededicated into industrial locations and the district developed as an industrial area.

In the 2013 census, the district had 693 inhabitants, 3.1% more than in the 2006 census.

Penrose is politically and administratively attached to the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Ward of the Auckland Council .
economy
Penrose is industrial and is called Auckland's Industrial Edge . The residential population of the district is correspondingly low.
