Until October 30, 2010, Auckland City was a separate Territorial Authority in the Auckland region ofthe North Island of New Zealand . In 2006, Auckland City was the largest city in the country before Christchurch, with a population of 404,658.

Amalgamation to the Auckland Council

Auckland City was amalgamated on November 1, 2010 together with the cities of Manukau City , North Shore City and Waitakere City , the districts of Papakura District , Rodney District and part of the Franklin District and the Auckland Region administrative unit to form the Auckland Council .
