North Shore City was an independent Territorial Authority (local authority) in the Auckland regionon the North Island of New Zealand until October 30, 2010. In 2006, North Shore City was the fourth largest city in the country with 205,605 residents.
Amalgamation to the Auckland Council
North Shore City was amalgamated on November 1, 2010 together with the cities of Auckland City , Manukau City and Waitakere City , the districts of Papakura District , Rodney District and part of the Franklin District and the Auckland Region administrative unit to form the Auckland Council . With Auckland : large area used to be mostly Auckland meant to the next Auckland City yet Manukau City , Waitakere City and North Shore City belonged since 2010 is associated with the name Auckland to Auckland Council .

North Shore City bordered with an area of 130 km² in the north on the former Rodney District and in the east on the Rangitoto Channel , a waterway belonging to the Hauraki Gulf . Waitemata Harbor formed the entire southern and western border . Two bridges run over this natural harbor, the Auckland Harbor Bridge , which connects to the inner city of the former Auckland City , and the Upper Harbor Bridge , which connects the former North Shore City with the former Waitakere City .
Districts
North Shore City , often referred to as North Auckland because of its northern location , was considered an upper-middle-class residence. In particular, the area around the beaches on the east coast was largely reserved for the villas of the upper class.
The former North Shore City can be divided into central and outer districts:
- Center: Milford , Takapuna , Belmont, Devonport, Bayswater, Northcote, Birkenhead, Highbury, Hillcrest, Glenfield , Wairau Valley, Westlake and Forrest Hill .
- Outer Districts: Birkdale, Beach Haven, North Harbor, Albany, Long Bay, Torbay , Waiake , Browns Bay, Rothesay Bay, Murrays Bay , Mairangi Bay, Campbells Bay and Castor Bay .
