Bons-en-Chablais is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Bons-en-Chablais is located at 562 m , about halfway between Thonon-les-Bains and Annemasse , 15 kilometers southwest of the town of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in Bas-Chablais on both sides of the Foron , at the northern foot of the Les Voirons ridge .
The area of the 19.09 square kilometers large municipal area includes a section of the Bas-Chablais and the adjacent pre-Alps. The northern part of the municipal area lies in a wide valley that is drained by the Foron and its tributaries. However, Bons-en-Chablais is separated from the Lake Geneva basin by the ridge of Mont de Boisy. To the south, the municipality extends over an initially gently, later steeply rising slope to the densely wooded ridge of Les Voirons, on which the highest elevation of Bons-en-Chablais is reached at 1480 m .

history
Finds from the Neolithic indicate a very early settlement of the area around Bons-en-Chablais. Bons was first mentioned in a document in 1039. In 1663, the Count of Langin gave the place the right to hold four markets a year.
The current municipality was not formed until 1966, when the previously independent municipalities of Bons, Brens and Saint-Didier merged, with the new municipality being called Bons-en-Chablais from then on.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul von Bons was built from 1863 to 1865 in the neo-Gothic style. In Brens there is the neoclassical Saint-Maurice church, which was built in the 19th century using earlier components. The church in Saint-Didier also dates from the 19th century. On a foothill of Les Voirons rises the medieval Tour de Langin, a restored tower that once belonged to the Château de Langin (built in the 11th and 12th centuries). In Brens is the Château de Brens, which originally dates back to a 13th century building.

With 5631 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Bons-en-Chablais is one of the medium-sized communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the last few decades there has been a continuous strong growth in the number of inhabitants. The various old village centers have now almost grown together through single-family house quarters.
Economy and Infrastructure
Bons-en-Chablais was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . Today there are various local small businesses as well as construction and trading companies. A self-contained industrial and commercial zone has developed north-west of the municipality since 1966. Many workers are commuters who work in the Geneva-Annemasse agglomeration or in Thonon-les-Bains.
The village is located on the D903 connecting road from Saint-Cergues directly to Thonon-les-Bains. Further road connections exist with Ballaison and via the Col de Saxel with Boëge. In addition, the area is crossed by the Annemasse – Thonon-les-Bains railway line ; the station is at Saint-Didier.
