Neuvecelle is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Neuvecelle is located at 450 m , ten kilometers east of the town of Thonon-les-Bains (straight line), immediately east of Évian-les-Bains . The village extends in the Chablais, in a panoramic position on the lower north slope of the plateau of the Pays de Gavot, around 80 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva .
The area of the 4.00 km² municipal area includes a section on the south bank of Lake Geneva; however, the lakeshore is only 0.5 km. The community area extends from the lakeshore over the relatively gently but steadily rising slope to the wooded area of the Bois de Forchez and to the edge of the high plateau. Below the hamlet of Saint-Thomas, Neuvecelle's highest point is reached at 860 m . The slope is drained by the village stream Ruisseau de Forchez .
Neighboring municipalities of Neuvecelle are Maxilly-sur-Léman in the east, Saint-Paul-en-Chablais and Larringes in the south and Publier and Évian-les-Bains in the west.
history
The current place name developed from the earlier forms of the name Novassella and Neuveselle , which means something like new mansion . In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Neuvecelle experienced significant economic development as a neighboring town to Évian-les-Bains. Various large hotels were built in the municipality, including the Royal, the Ermitage and the Splendide (all between 1900 and 1910). The Hotel Ermitage was the quarters of the German national soccer team during the 2016 European Championship in France .
Attractions
The church dates from the 19th century. Also worth mentioning is the funicular that runs from Évian to Neuvecelle. Operations ceased in 1969, but resumed in 2002 after the facilities were restored.

With 3,048 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Neuvecelle is one of the medium-sized communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the last few decades, thanks to the beautiful residential area, a continuous strong growth in the number of inhabitants has been recorded. Almost the entire slope is now loosely built over with single-family houses, villas and tourist facilities.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, the old core of Neuvecelle was a predominantly agricultural village. Today it is above all an attractive place to live. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Évian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Évian-les-Bains. Other road connections exist with Champanges, Saint-Paul-en-Chablais and Maxilly-sur-Léman.
