Champanges is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Champanges is located at 710 m , six kilometers east of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Chablais, in a panoramic position on the high plateau of the Pays de Gavot south of Lake Geneva and east of the Dranse valley, in the Savoy Prealps.
The area of the 3.71 km² municipal area covers a section of the high plateau in central Chablais. The plateau slopes slightly to the west. In the south, the border mostly runs along the Maravant , a short right side stream of the Dranse. The highest point of Champanges is reached at 785 m on the outskirts of Larringes.
The hamlet of Saint-Martin ( 743 m ) on the eastern edge of the village belongs to Champanges . Neighboring communities of Champanges are Publier in the north, Larringes in the east, Féternes in the south and Marin in the west.
history
Champanges is first mentioned in the Middle Ages under the name Champengium . The village, which was very small for a long time, broke away from Larringes in 1860 and became an independent municipality.

The village church of Saint-Martin was built in 1720 in the Baroque style.

With 1,015 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Champanges is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the last few decades the population has grown steadily. Outside the old village center, larger single-family houses were built.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Champanges was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various local small businesses. A large number of employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Thonon-les-Bains.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from both Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains . There are other road connections with Larringes and Féternes.
