Lyaud is a French commune near the Lake Geneva in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Lyaud is located at 665 m , five kilometers southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Chablais, in a panoramic position slightly elevated on a plateau south of Lake Geneva , at the northern foot of the Savoy Pre-Alps.
The area of the 9.17 km² municipal area includes a section of the Chablais with the northern Savoy Pre-Alps. The northern part of the municipal area lies on the plateau of Lyaud ( 630 m ), which is drained by the Ruisseau des Blaves and its source streams to the northwest to Lake Geneva. In the northeast, this plateau drops steeply to the Dranse gorge . The area extends in a narrow corner down to the Dranse. To the south, the municipality extends over the La Croix foothill ( 798 m ) and a steep slope up to the densely wooded ridge of Mont d'Hermone , on which the highest elevation of Lyaud is reached at 1413 m .
The hamlets of Trossy ( 623 m ) at the foot of La Croix, Moulins-d'Amphion ( 592 m ) on Ruisseau des Blaves and Les Devants ( 700 m ) east of the village belong to Lyaud . Neighboring municipalities of Lyaud are Armoy and Féternes in the north, Reyvroz in the east, Vailly and Orcier in the south and Allinges in the west.
history
Traces from the Roman and Burgundian times point to an early settlement of the municipality. From 1793 to 1870 Lyaud formed a double community with Armoy, and since then it has been a politically independent community.
Attractions
Sights worth mentioning are the 19th century village church of Saint-Nicolas and the Notre-Dame-du-Caix chapel.

In the last few decades there has been a continuous strong growth in the number of inhabitants. Outside the old village center, larger single-family houses were built. The settlement area of Lyaud has grown together with that of Armoy.
Economy and Infrastructure
Lyaud was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . Today there are various local small businesses. A large number of employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Thonon-les-Bains.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from Thonon-les-Bains via the D26 connecting road. Further road connections exist with Orcier and Allinges.
