La Forclaz is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
La Forclaz is located at 848 m , twelve kilometers southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends in central Chablais , in a hollow on the steep eastern valley slope high above the Dranse de Morzine , in the northern Savoy Alps .
The area of the 4.04 km² municipal area includes a section of the Chablais. The western border forms the Dranse de Morzine, which runs roughly from south to north in a deeply cut valley. At the Gorges du Pont du Diable the valley is narrowed like a gorge. In the south the municipal area extends to the dam of the Lac du Jotty, in the north to the confluence of the Dranse d'Abondance. From the course of the river, the municipality stretches eastward over the steeply rising slope, partly criss-crossed by rock walls, to the Pointe de l'Aiguille ( 1502 m ) and the Pointes de Tréchauffex , on which the highest elevation of La Forclaz is reached at 1580 m .
La Forclaz includes the hamlets of La Chavette ( 660 m ), Le Cruet ( 770 m ), Belmont ( 920 m ) and Chalets de Tréchauffex ( 1250 m ), all located on the steep slope of La Forclaz. Neighboring municipalities of La Forclaz are Vinzier and Chevenoz in the north, La Baume in the south and La Vernaz in the west.
history
La Forclaz has been an independent municipality since 1740, previously it was part of Le Biot .
Attractions
The village church dates from the 19th century and has a typical onion dome in the Savoyard style. Another attraction is the natural bridge in the Gorges du Pont du Diable.
