Cervens is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Cervens is located at 614  m , ten kilometers south-southwest of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in Bas-Chablais, in the headwaters of the Ruisseau de la Gurnaz, at the northern foot of the Pre-Alps in the area of the Col de Cou (Cervens) pass .

The area of the 6.36 km² municipal area includes a section of the Bas-Chablais and the adjacent pre-Alps. The northern part of the municipal area is taken up by the Bas-Chablais plateau, which slopes slightly to the north and is drained north to Lake Geneva by the Ruisseau de la Gurnaz and the Ruisseau du Redon . To the south and south-east, the municipality extends over an initially gentle, later steep slope to the wooded ridge of the Crêt Vernay ( 1220  m ). At the Pointe de Targaillan, southwest of the Col de Cou, the highest elevation of Cervens is reached at 1230  m .

The hamlets of Terrotet ( 605  m ) and Pessinges ( 624  m ) at the foot of the Crêt Vernay belong to Cervens . Neighboring communities of Cervens are Perrignier in the north, Draillant in the east, Habère-Poche in the south and Fessy and Lully in the west.

history

The place name of Cervens is probably derived from the Gallo-Roman personal name Cervinus .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Cervens was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area or in Thonon-les-Bains.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Perrignier on the D903 connecting road from Saint-Cergues directly to Thonon-les-Bains. Further road connections exist with Draillant and Lully.
