Bonnevaux is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Bonnevaux is located at 904 m , 17 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends in Chablais , on a leveled area on the western slope of the Dranse d'Abondance , in the northern Savoy Alps .
The area of the 7.82 km² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée d'Abondance. In the Bonnevaux area, the valley is oriented from south to north and has a narrow point here. To the west, the municipal area extends over the mountain range that separates the Vallée d'Abondance from the Dranse de Morzine valley. The Col du Corbier ( 1237 m ) is a relatively easy transition into this valley. North of the pass, the highest point in Bonnevaux is reached on Mont Ouzon at 1881 m . Only a small part of the municipality's land lies east of the Dranse d'Abondance. The area extends here on the slopes of the Pointe d'Autigny.
Bonnevaux includes the hamlets of Centfontaine ( 814 m ) and La Solitude ( 830 m ) in the valley of the Dranse d'Abondance and Le Sommet ( 940 m ) on the ascent to Col du Corbier. Neighboring municipalities of Bonnevaux are Vacheresse in the north, Abondance in the east and Le Biot and La Baume in the west.
history
The village is first mentioned in the Middle Ages under the Latinized names Bona vallis and Bonnovallis . Bonnevaux used to belong to the territory of the Sainte-Marie-d'Abondance Abbey. Bonnevaux only became an independent municipality in 1835, before that it was part of Vacheresse.
Attractions
The present Bonnevaux church was built in 1964.
