Loisin is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Loisin is located in the Savoie wine-growing region . White wines made from the Gutedel grape variety (known locally as Chasselas ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin Crépy .

geography

Loisin is located at 467  m , 16 kilometers northeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies), close to the border with Switzerland . The municipality extends at the north-west foot of Mont de Boisy, on the edge of the Bas-Chablais plain south of Lake Geneva .

The area of ​​the 7.86 km² municipal area includes a section of the Bas-Chablais plain. The plateau, which is around 70 m higher than the lake level of Lake Geneva, is drained to Lake Geneva by the Hermance . To the west, the municipality extends over the moorland of the Marais de Chilly into the extensive wooded area of Bois Saint-Jean . In the east it extends up the slope of Mont de Boisy, where the highest point of Loisin is reached at 570  m .

Loisin includes the hamlets of Ballavais ( 474  m ) at the foot of the slope and Pétolaz ( 500  m ), Les Mogets ( 505  m ) and Tholomaz ( 504  m ) on the western slope of Mont de Boisy. Neighboring municipalities of Loisin are Douvaine in the north, Ballaison and Bons-en-Chablais in the east, Machilly in the south and Veigy-Foncenex and Chens-sur-Léman in the west.

With 1,551 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Loisin is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the last few decades there has been a continuous strong growth in the number of inhabitants. Outside the old village center and on the promising hillside locations on Mont de Boisy, extensive single-family house quarters were created.

Economy and Infrastructure

Loisin was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . Viticulture is practiced on the western slope of Mont de Boisy . Today there are various local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns or in the agglomeration of Geneva.

The village is on the main road N206 from Annemasse to Douvaine. Further road connections exist with Ballaison and Veigy-Foncenex.
