Hedwig Kiesekamp

Hedwig Kiesekamp , b. Bracht; (* July 21, 1844 in Henrichenburg ; † March 2, 1919 in Münster ), actually Hedwig Carolina Theodora Maria Huberta Philomene Kiesekamp , lived and worked as a singer and writer in Münster (Westphalia). She wrote under the pseudonyms “L. Rafael "and" Helene Kordelia ".

Life

Hedwig Kiesekamp was born on the Henrichenburg manor as one of seven children of the tenant Hermann Bracht in Westphalia. She attended the local village school until she was 14, where she was taught by a clergyman in French and geography, among other things. After her father's death, she attended an Ursuline convent school in Marseyk in Belgium for a year before returning to Westphalia. In 1864 she married the mill owner and later President of the Chamber of Commerce Wilhelm Kiesekamp and moved to Münster, where she lived until her death. A memorial stone on the west wall of the central cemetery in Münster commemorates her. A street in Castrop-Rauxel is named after her.

Kiesekamp first wrote fairy tales for her own children. Levin Schücking supported her with her first literary rehearsals. As a writer, Kiesekamp wrote short stories, poetry, dramas and literature for young people, some of which saw several editions.

Hedwig Kiesekamp was also successful as a singer. Important composers like Max Reger wrote songs for the concert and oratorio singer, Hans Pfitzner set her poems to music. Kiesekamp was friends with Johannes Brahms .
