Essert-Romand is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Essert-Romand is located at 936 m , near the tourist resort of Morzine , 24 kilometers southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Chablais , in a valley widening of the Vallée d'Aulps on a terrace west of the Dranse de Morzine , at the eastern foot of the Roc d'Enfer in the Savoy Alps .
The area of the 6.78 km² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée d'Aulps. The Dranse de Morzine, which runs from the south-south-east to the north-north-west in a mostly around 200 m wide, flat valley floor, forms the eastern municipal boundary. From this course of the river, the parish extends westward over a densely wooded slope to the Rochers de Graydon (at 1,789 m the highest elevation in Essert-Romand) and the Alp Graydon.
Essert-Romand includes the hamlets of La Touvière ( 905 m ) and Le Laydevant ( 943 m ) on the terrace west of the Dranse de Morzine and Les Places ( 1255 m ) on the ascent to the Graydon alpine settlement. The neighboring municipalities of Essert-Romand are Saint-Jean-d'Aulps in the north, Montriond and Morzine in the east and La Côte-d'Arbroz in the south.
history
The village was mentioned in the Middle Ages under the Latinized name Essartum Romanorum . The place name is derived from exsartum , the past participle of the late Latin word exsarire (to clear, to make arable). Essert-Romand was always part of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps and only became an independent municipality in 1860.
Attractions
The village church dates from the 19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
Essert-Romand was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . In the meantime, the village has developed into a residential and holiday resort thanks to its proximity to Morzine.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road from Thonon-les-Bains through the Vallée d'Aulps to Morzine. Another road connection is with La Côte-d'Arbroz.
