The tamarisk thuja moss ( Thuidium tamariscinum ) is a moss found in Central European forests. It got its name because of its striking resemblance to the trees of life ( thuja ). It is similar to the floor moss ( Hylocomium splendens ), but has no annual shoots stacked on top of each other and does not shine when dry. In addition, the stem is not so conspicuously red in color.

The reason for this is its strikingly regular triple feathering. The branches are arranged in one plane so that triangular fronds in the shape of a small fir tree are created.
The plants can reach lengths of up to 10 cm. Their color can be very different. Light green plants occur as well as olive green or dark green.
As on the stems and branches, the leaves are differently developed. The stem leaves are broadly triangular in the lower part, then drawn together into a narrow lanceolate point in the upper part. The branch leaves are more oval and pointed shorter. As with the other species of the genus, the tamarisk thuja moss has a single papilla on each leaf cell . The cell at the tip of the leaf also has only a single papilla at the front end of this species. The leaf margin is finely serrated by the papillae, at the tip it is also more strongly and irregularly serrated.
There are numerous paraphyllia with thorns between the leaves .
The capsule is curved and cylindrical, the lid long beaked.

The tamarisk thuja moss is almost cosmopolitan .
It grows in shady places on various substrates, especially in forests, but also on rocks or meadows in valleys. It prefers base-rich, mineral-rich locations.
