La Côte-d'Arbroz is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
La Côte-d'Arbroz is located at 1170 m , near the tourist resort of Morzine , 25 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends in southern Chablais , on the western slope of the Vallée d'Aulps high above the valley floor of the Dranse de Morzine , in the Savoy Alps .
The area of the 12.24 km² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée d'Aulps. The municipal area takes up large parts of the catchment area of the Brochard , a left tributary of the Dranse de Morzine. To the west, the communal soil extends over the Col de l'Encrenaz ( 1432 m ) into a heavily reliefed area, which is drained to the south to the Arve . Striking mountain peaks are the Pointe d'Uble ( 1963 m ) and the Roc d'Enfer , on which the highest point of La Côte-d'Arbroz is reached at 2244 m .
La Côte-d'Arbroz includes the hamlets of La Villaz ( 1260 m ) on the slope above the Brochard Valley and L'Encrenaz ( 1432 m ) on the pass of the same name between Roc d'Enfer and Mont Chéry. Neighboring municipalities of La Côte-d'Arbroz are Saint-Jean-d'Aulps and Essert-Romand in the north, Morzine in the east, Les Gets and Taninges in the south and Mieussy and Bellevaux in the west.
history
The village is mentioned in a document as early as the 12th century under the name Arberoz . The name is derived from the Latin word arbor (tree) and denotes a place where trees were planted. La Côte-d'Arbroz was raised to an independent municipality in 1783.
Attractions
The village church dates from the 19th century.

With 339 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Côte-d'Arbroz is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Savoie department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased markedly in the course of the 20th century (in 1901 La Côte-d'Arbroz still had 502 inhabitants), the population has increased again since the late 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Côte-d'Arbroz was a predominantly agricultural village. In the meantime, the village has developed into a residential and holiday resort thanks to its proximity to Morzine.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a local road that leads from Morzine to the Col de l'Encrenaz.
