A money clip can be used instead of a purse to hold bank notes.
There are cultural differences in the use of money clips : in regions where it is common to carry banknotes openly with you, for example in your trouser pocket, they are perceived as practical. Here it is often made of valuable material itself. In regions like Central Europe , where the money is hidden, it is rarely used.
The money clip has its origins in the 7th century and was first introduced in China, when paper money became more and more important.
The money clip was patented for the first time in 1901 and became more and more popular in Europe.
