Bonneville is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ..
The city is located around 27 kilometers southeast of Geneva and 57 kilometers northwest of Chamonix . Near the center is the city's landmark, a large bridge over the Arve .
Bonneville has 12,608 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on an area of 2,715 hectares. Mayor is Martial Saddier. The 2006 Olympic champion in the downhill, Antoine Dénériaz , lives in the city ; Bonneville is also the birthplace of the national soccer player René Alpsteg .
Bonneville has a train station on the La Roche-sur-Foron – Saint-Gervais railway line .
The municipality is located in the Savoie wine-growing region . White wines made from the Altesse grape variety (locally called Roussette ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin Roussette de Savoie . The AOC Vin de Savoie applies to white wines of other grape varieties and red wines .
