Linda G. Thompson , née Uebelherr (born September 21, 1948 in Gersthofen , Bavaria ) is a German pop singer . She had her greatest success as a member of the Silver Convention group .

biography

Linda G. Thompson released her first single in 1964, then under the pseudonym "Gigi". In the mid-1960s she replaced Katharina Cornely, the daughter of Frank Cornely, at the Cornely Singers . In 1969 she co-founded the vocal ensemble Love Generation , which she left in 1971.

In the 1970s she sang first with The Les Humphries Singers , from 1975 then together with Penny McLean and Ramona Wulf at Silver Convention . The three singers celebrated world successes with Get Up and Boogie and Fly Robin Fly, and with the latter made it to number 1 on the Billboard charts in the USA. Together with Ramona Wulf, she became the first German woman to have a number one hit in the USA. In 1975 Thompson was awarded a Grammy for her performance in Fly Robin Fly . In late 1976 she was replaced in the group by the New Yorker Rhonda Heath . During her time with the successful trio, she was actually only active as a singer on the tracks of the second LP Get Up And Boogie . Like Wulf and McLean, she did not sing a note on the first LP and in fact is not heard on either Save Me or Fly Robin Fly . All tracks on the first album were sung by Betsy Allen, Roberta Kelly , Gitta Walther , Lucy Neale and Jackie Carter.

Until 1980 she released singles both as a soloist and in a duet with Jerry Rix . With him and the title weekend she took eleventh place in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 . In 1981 she appeared again in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , this time as the lead singer of the women's quartet The Hornettes with the song Mannequin and achieved second place. In the German sales hit parade, this title reached 27th place in the spring of 1981. The group was regularly seen on German TV programs and on national and international concert stages until the early 1990s.

In 2010 she was a participant in the cooking show The Perfect Celebrity Dinner . Thompson lives in Munich, is still active as a musician (also with some members of the now reunited Les Humphries Singers ) and performs at galas, receptions and festivals. Every now and then she works as a photo stylist.
