The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 took place under the title Ein Lied für Dublin .
By sending the triple participant of the leading Euro Vision Song Contest , Katja Ebstein , who had achieved the best result to date for Germany at the Euro Vision Song Contest last year.

The Bayerische Rundfunk retained the mode of previous years due to the success of Genghis Khan and Katja Ebstein at.
A jury of thirteen professionals from the entertainment industry selected the twelve finalists from 673 entries.
After the preliminary decision, which this year took place five weeks before the Eurovision Song Contest , 500 representative radio listeners and television viewers were interviewed by telephone after the twelve tracks had passed through the polling institute Infratest . During the broadcast, they had to rate the twelve titles using a given point scale.
This year, as in the previous year, the final scores of the individual performers were announced.

Martin Mann is a pop singer and composer. His greatest success as a singer was the title Meilenweit .

By retiring from Silver Convention at the end of 1976, she did not appear with Silver Convention at the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest in Wembley.
Peter Cornelius is an Austrian songwriter and guitarist. It was in 1973 ORF telecast Show chance discovered and was then among other member of the ensemble in the musical Hair . His first smaller success outside of Austria was the title The Coffee is Ready, which was composed by Michael Cretu . He had his breakthrough in Germany at the end of 1981 with the title Du excuse, i know di (8th place in the German charts)
