The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2003 in Riga took place on March 7, 2003 in Kiel's Ostseehalle . The event could be seen live in the first . Axel Bulthaupt moderated.
Field of participants
In cooperation with the major German record companies, fifteen titles were selected for the preliminary decision. Joachim Germany was disqualified in advance because of insulting statements made to the family of the then Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber .
For the first time, media sponsorships were also awarded: The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung supported the boy with the guitar , the Bild the Gerd Show , the taz Senait , the teen magazine Yam Freistil and the Turkish tabloid Hürriyet Tagträumer feat. Aynur , who wanted to "build a bridge from Christianity to Islam" with their trilingual song.

Voting mode
The viewers could vote by phone and SMS. As in the previous year, there were two voting rounds. The three best-rated titles from the first round were up for election in a second round. The winner represented Germany at the ESC final.
Brainstorm , last year's winner Marie N and Modern Talking performed during the voting break .
Result
As in previous years, the ARD only announced the result of the second voting round. Lou won with her title Let's Get Happy and received 38.0 percent of the vote. Beatbetrieb (What do you believe in) came second with 31.6 percent, Die Gerd Show (Everything will be fine) third with 30.4 percent.
