The boy with the guitar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The boy with the guitar , DJMDG for short (* 1976 in Kamp-Lintfort ; real name Tobias Schacht ) is a German singer and guitarist .

life and career

Tobias Schacht grew up in Tecklenburg . He became known in 1998 through his appearance at the Bizarre Festival in "Speakers' Corner". Here - rather out of embarrassment - his name came about as an answer to the audience's question about who he was. Schacht is the son of a pastoral consultant and organist . He completed classical guitar training and a jazz scholarship in Texas . After dropping out of a psychology degree, he worked for a music label and an advertising agency .

His music consists of melodic guitar songs and sometimes serious, but also ironic lyrics. Schacht also performed at the Bizarre Festival from 1999 to 2001. He took on the role of the P&S break band and always performed while the main stage was being converted. As a result, he spent more time on stage than any other artist at the Bizarre Festival. He reached the peak of his career after the performance of the Foo Fighters in 2001, when the more than 1500 festival-goers who had gathered in front of his stage carried him on their hands for minutes. In 2002 the youth magazine Bravo named him Newcomer of the Month , a year later he took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , in which his father accompanied him on the piano , he took penultimate place with the song "Die Seite, wo die Sonne seems".

His polarizing texts led to massive public criticism . This attacked both his text content, the sometimes raw choice of words in his lyrics , but not least the person Schacht himself. In the course of 2004 he was increasingly confronted with such personally insulting reviews as well as the threat of physical violence, written down in the guest book of his website . As a consequence, Der Junge Mit Der Gitarre announced on August 20, 2004 via his music label Edel Music that he was withdrawing from the public spotlight due to the open rejection of the mass media .

With his appearance at a benefit concert on February 19, 2005 in Heyeröder Hafen , Schacht ended his career as The Boy with the Guitar .

Tobias Schacht now works as a journalist and editor in Madrid and Berlin.
