The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 took place under the title Ein Lied für Luxemburg .

system

Six artists were pre-selected who promised a success at the ESC 1973.

The artists and the heads of entertainment of the individual stations of the ARD jointly proposed 12 composers. They each had to find a copywriter. Composer and lyricist were only allowed to participate with one title.

This year the contributions were sung live by the performers. The moderator Edith Grobleben led the show .

The decision on the winning title was made by a jury of 10 people, half of whom were five television entertainment experts (three from Germany and two from abroad) and five laypeople interested in music (young people under the age of 25 who are interested in pop, some of whom are professional or at least were closely connected to pop music in their private lives). Each jury member could award between one and five points for each song.
The jury included:
Horst Wernstedt, chief entertainment editor at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) in Hamburg,
Arturo Caps, head of entertainment at Spanish television TVE ,
Hans Hirschmann , head of the main entertainment department at Südwestfunk (SWF) in Baden-Baden, and
Max Ernst , Head of entertainment at Swiss television SRG ,
Christian Striegler, music producer and editor of the main entertainment department on television at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in Cologne,
Gabriele Rogall, record seller,
Dieter Heil, banker,
Claudia Dettmer, schoolgirl,
Gerhard Schneidbach, record seller,
and
Alice Cymermann , Medical student.

Attendees

This year only well-known pop stars were allowed to make the preliminary round.

Roberto Blanco , German pop singer of Cuban descent, had success in 1972 with The Puppeteer of Mexico, I'm Coming Back to Amarillo and A Little Fun Must Be .

Inga & Wolf had already participated in the previous year with Gute Nacht, Freunde and achieved fourth place in the preliminary round.

Michael Holm was best known for Mendocino and barefoot in the rain .

Cindy & Bert had a few hits up to the preliminary round, including the (more psychedelic) cover version of Black Sabbath's Paranoid .

At the time of the preliminary decision, Tonia was the most successful singer for her home country Belgium . She reached the Eurovision Song Contest 1966 in Luxembourg with the title Un peu de poivre, un peu de sel with 14 points the 4th place.

Gitte was established as a singer. In 1963 she won the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden with Ich will 'nen Cowboy als Mann , which became a No. 1 hit.
