Klaus Munro

Klaus "Nick" Munro (born June 28, 1927 in Hamburg ; † February 7, 2013 there ) was a German composer , lyricist , singer , music producer and screenwriter .

Life

After graduating from school, Munro completed an apprenticeship at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . This included piano lessons, writing scores, and conducting .

Afterwards Munro attended drama school and engagements, where he also wrote theater music, for example. He then worked alternately as Kapellmeister, arranger, singer, lyricist, screenwriter and director. He has been composing Schlager since 1952 .

When Vicky Leandros intended to compete for Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1972 , Munro offered his composition "Then came you", which he had written for Vicky together with Leo Leandros , who worked under the pseudonym Mario Panas , but which has not yet been published was. The Luxembourg representatives spontaneously decided on this title and had Yves Dessca write a French text for it. On March 25, 1972 Vicky Leandros appeared in Edinburgh as the penultimate of 18 participants. Klaus Munro conducted the orchestra himself. At the end of the event, the title “Après toi” was clearly at the top of the ranking with 128 points. In Germany it reached number 11 on the charts , while in the English version it climbed to number 2 in the British charts as “Come what may”. In total, the title was sold over six million times. This was followed by hits such as "The bouzouki sounded through the summer night" (1973).

Munro also worked as a television writer. His company Nick Munro Musikproduktion is based in Hamburg.

Klaus Munro died at the age of 85 in his hometown of Hamburg. He was married to the gallery owner Vera Munro until his death .
