The Shetland Museum is a museum in Lerwick , the capital of the Scottish Shetland Islands . The new building, which is five times the size of the previous premises, began in 2004 and opened in 2007. The project was partly financed by lottery income.

The history of the Shetland Islands is presented on two floors over an area of ​​around 900 m². On the ground floor there are exhibits on the subjects of the environment , geology , agriculture , fisheries and folklore . On the upper floor, the exhibition focuses on politics , industry , clothing , whaling and the merchant marine . The archive includes maps , literature such as biographies and genealogy, as well as Church of Scotland files as far as they relate to the Shetlands . There is also a 120 m² hall and a café .
