particularities

The interpreter of the winning title, Vicky Leandros , in 2008

Although Monaco won a year earlier and this country would have had the right to host the Eurovision Song Contest, Monte Carlo was unable to produce such a big show. Thus, the UK stepped in again after 1960 and 1963 . Vicky Leandros won for Luxembourg with the title Après toi (German: 'After you', as the German version: Then came you  ), composed by Mario Panas (pseudonym for Leo Leandros ) and Klaus Munro and written by Yves Dessca and Klaus Munro has been.

In addition to the Eastern Bloc (with the exception of the GDR, which, however, could largely receive West German television), the competition was broadcast from Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand.

Ireland's contribution was sung in Irish for the first and only time to date ; the singer Sandie Jones had little success with it.

Attendees

  • participating countries
  • Countries that had participated in a previous ESC, but not in 1972
  • As in the previous year, 18 countries took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1972 in Edinburgh.

    Voting procedure

Almost the same voting procedure was used as in the previous year. Each country sent two jurors to the competition, one over and the other under 25 years of age. The jurors were not present in the event hall, but sat in a separate room. The juries had to give each song points: at least one point, at most five points.
