population

The number of residents increased sharply between 1798 and 1850 (1798–1850: +30.5%). The population of Udligenswil remained stable for a long time and fluctuated between 500 and 600 inhabitants from 1850 to the 1960s. At that time the community was a small farming village with numerous farms and some small businesses. There has been sustained strong growth since 1960. The population has more than tripled within fifty years (1960–2010: +224.3%). The better transport connections and the location on a sun terrace near the cities of Zug and Lucerne are responsible for this. As a result, many people who have their jobs in the economically stronger communities in the region moved to the farming village. The community changed from a farming village to a commuter community. Growth has been slow since 2010 and has come to a complete standstill since the end of 2014.

history

Udligenswil is mentioned for the first time in 1036 in a confirmation of ownership sent to the Beromünster canon monastery as Uodelgoswilare . In the 13th century it came to Küssnacht and from 1291 belonged to the Habsburgs . In 1380 it came under protection and umbrella rights and was sold to Lucerne by Johanna von Hunwyl in 1406 . In 1565/66 the plague raged and took half of the residents away. In 1725 Udligenswil attracted international attention because the Vogt and Pastor Andermatt got into a dispute over a dance event. Even the Pope had to intervene in the so-called Udligenswil trade . Since 1798 the community belongs to the district (from 1803 office) Lucerne.
