Honau is a municipality in the Lucerne-Land constituency in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .

geography

The community is located between the Reuss and Rooterberg between Lucerne and Zug . Of the area of ​​only 124.86 hectares, 68.6% is used for agricultural purposes, 19.2% is forest and wood and only 9.6% is used as settlement area.

The highest point in the municipality is on the Rooterberg at 652  m above sea level. M. , the deepest on the Reuss at 403  m above sea level. M.

Neighboring communities are Gisikon and Root in the canton of Lucerne , Risch in the canton of Zug and Dietwil in the canton of Aargau .

population

Population development

In 1798 Honau only had 81 residents. This number grew to 155 people by 1880. Thereafter, the number of inhabitants fell to 127 by 1900. Between 1930 and 1970 there was a sharp decline in population (1930–1970: −42.9%) to only 84 inhabitants. Since the opening of highway connection Gisikon in 1986 there has been a striking increase in population. There are now 380 people living in Honau (as of December 31, 2015), including 192 men and 188 women.

languages

Almost the entire population (as of 2000) states German as their main language, namely 94.06% of the residents. Smaller language minorities are the Albanian speakers with 3.75% and the 0.94% of the population, who communicate mainly in Portuguese.

Religions - denominations

The population was originally purely Catholic. Religious minorities were added through migration. In 2000, only a narrow majority of 60.31% of the population was Roman Catholic; 20.63% were Protestant. Non-Christian minorities were the 10% non-denominational and 5.31% Muslim.

Origin - nationality

At the end of 2016, 342 of the 363 inhabitants were Swiss and 21 (5.79%) were foreigners. At the end of 2016, the migration groups came from Germany and Italy (5 people each; 1.37% each), Austria (3 people; 0.83%), Kosovo and Portugal (2 people each; 0.55% each) and Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Poland and the United States (1 person each; 0.28% each), as well as. At the end of 2016, a total of 4.8% of immigrants were of non-European origin.

Thirty years ago, the population made their living almost exclusively in agriculture . Today (as of 2001) 23.6% of the workforce still work in agriculture. Industry and commerce are hardly present (1.1% of employees), while 75.3% find work in service occupations. At least 51 commuters are compared to 134 commuters (mainly in the direction of Zug, Lucerne, Root and Zurich). A packaging company and a company from the automotive industry are the largest employers. Other employers are GlasOne AG and the Aldi Suisse branch, which was built in 2010 .

The Gisikon motorway junction is just 1 km away. There is a connection to public transport from the SBB stations Gisikon-Root and Rotkreuz or with the 110 bus from “Honau Hirschen” to Hochdorf or Rotkreuz.

history

Honau is mentioned for the first time indirectly in a document in 1344, where an "Ulrico de Honowa" appears as a witness. Together with Gisikon , Honau shared the fate of the neighbor. Various rulers as feudal lords of the Habsburgs and in 1422 Lucerne took over as part of the Habsburg bailiff. In the Sonderbund War of 1847, Honau suffered considerable damage from the skirmishes between the troops of the Sonderbund and the federal soldiers.

Attractions

The St. Eligius Chapel , built in 1647, has late Renaissance altars from the workshop of N. Geissler. Another attraction is the Gasthof Zum Hirschen .
