José Calvário

José Calvário (* 1951 in Porto ; † June 17, 2009 in Oeiras ) was a Portuguese musician , composer and conductor .

Life

José Calvário had piano lessons as a child and from 1957 attended the Music Conservatory in Porto . At the age of ten he gave his first public concert with the Porto Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the conductor Silva Pereira. After a three-year study trip to Switzerland , he took second place at the Portuguese Festival da Canção in 1971 with the song Flor sem tempo (composition), sung by Paulo de Carvalho ; In 1972 his song, sung by Carlos Mendes , took first place.

He took part in several Eurovision Song Contests :

In 1996 he recorded the album Maps with the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera . In 2009 he was honored for his work at the Festival da Canção.

He died on June 17, 2009 of complications from a stroke he suffered in 2008, leaving behind a wife and two children.
