The fourth Euro Vision Young Dancers took place on June 5, 1991 at the City Theater Helsinki, Helsinki in Finland instead. The host was Yleisradio , which was commissioned for the first time to host a Eurovision event.
The winner was the Spanish dancer Amaya Iglesias with her variation dance La Grisi . It was the second time since 1985 that Spain won the competition. Second place went to the French dancer Emmanuel Thibault. Third place went to the Danish dancer Johan Kobborg.
venue
The Yleisradio selected the Helsinki City Theater in Helsinki as the venue . It was the first time Finland hosted an EYD. It was also the first Eurovision event organized and hosted by Yleisradio.
format
Dancers between the ages of 16 and 21 could perform. However, only solo dancers or couples could compete. However, the format changed in contrast to 1989. There was another semi-final, otherwise the number of participants would go beyond the time frame. There all 15 participants competed against each other, but only eight of them qualified for the final. There was also still a professional jury, but this again, as in 1985 and 1987, awarded 1st to 3rd place. The chairman of the jury was the Finnish dancer and choreographer Jorma Uotinen . The other jury members were:
Moderation
The Finnish dancer and actress Taina Elg and the Finnish presenter Heikki Värtsi acted as moderators.
Attendees
A total of 15 countries took part in the fourth Eurovision Young Dancers, two countries fewer than in 1989. Eventually Canada, Austria and the United Kingdom withdrew from the competition. Bulgaria, on the other hand, took part in a Eurovision event for the first time.
Recurring performers
The Cypriot participant Hélène O'Keefe participated in Cyprus' debut in 1989 . This makes her the first participant in the competition to take part more than once. However, she did not reach the final of the event in 1989.
