Wilma (1969)

Wilma Landkroon (born April 28, 1957 in Enschede , Netherlands ) is a Dutch pop singer and a former child star .

Life

Beginnings as a child star

Wilma Landkroon became known as Wilma with her song Heintje, build a castle for me at the age of 11 in Germany and the Benelux countries . The song was produced by the Dutch singer and music manager Gert Timmerman in response to Heintje's hit song I'll build you a castle . With this title, the singer achieved higher chart placements than her counterpart Heintje . Soon Klaus Lorenzen became the young singer's producer. Other hits such as Zauberfee (Dutch: Toverfee ) entered the charts in 1969.

Wilma Landkroon began to record her songs not only in German and Dutch , but also in other languages such as English or even Japanese , and has now also achieved international success, including the title Lavendel blue (Dutch: 'n Suikerspin ). Other successful titles from Wilma in 1969 and 1970 included A wooden shoe with sails ( Een klomp met een zeiltje ), Don't cry at goodbye ( Huil toch niet als je weg moet gaan ) and 80 red roses ( 80 rode rozen ).

Wilma Landkroon also appeared in two German feature films. She played alongside Roy Black and Helga Anders in the film Our Doctor is the Best (1969) and sang the song A wooden shoe with sailing , in the same year she had a vocal appearance in the film A day like this day in the film Klassenkeile .

In the early 1970s, the well-known Dutch composer Pierre Kartner took the young singer under his wing. In a duet with Vader Abraham , she had a big hit with Zou het erg zijn , which was No. 1 in the Dutch charts. However, this success was almost exclusively limited to the Netherlands.

Failures and comebacks

Wilma Landkroon's short career soon came to an end. Your attempt in 1973 to build a repertoire away from the image of the child star together with the Dutch band De Makkers failed. She experienced social decline, quickly became impoverished and came into contact with the police several times for property crimes. In a house fire in 1994, in connection with which she was initially accused of insurance fraud (the allegations however turned out to be unfounded), all of her honors from her successful days were burned. Various other comeback attempts failed.

In the 1990s and the beginning of the first decade of the 21st century, a number of best-of CDs were released in the Netherlands. Klaus Lorenzen produced a CD with Wilma's most successful hits under the title Wilma - Dubbelgoud = Dubbelgoed .

A CD was also released under the title Wilma - Toen en Nu , on which Wilma sings several newly produced titles in addition to some of her former hits. The CD was only a moderate success. In the title Gouden Platen - Voll Salen , Wilma Landkroon looks back somewhat wistfully on her heyday as a child star. In a television interview in the Netherlands in 2005, she clearly criticized the circumstances in which she was marketed as a child and adolescent.

In 2009 Wilma Landkroon decided to make a one-time comeback after almost 40 years and recorded a duet with the singer Sylvia Corpiér entitled Niets of Nobody , which reached number 1 in the Holland FM Top 25 at the end of August .

Wilma Landkroon is the sister of the composer, lyricist and singer Henny Thijssen and the singer Reiny Landkroon .
