Dr. Leonhard Sommer has just finished studying medicine and is starting an internship at Professor Janssen's private clinic in Munich . Since the great patroness of the Alma Carisius clinic expressed her wish that Leonhard can start the internship in a letter, Janssen is initially biased against Leonhard. Those who can trust in their relationships do not need to be able to achieve anything great. As Leonhard reached the hospital, he is first with an installer confused, the woman Janssen the boiler to repair. In the hospital, the head nurse first tries to unsettle Leonhard professionally, but he spontaneously realizes that the girl in the children's ward does not have hepatitis . However, he is surprised that the girl Wilma is the only patient on the children's ward. Nurse Loni explains: Professor Janssen plans to give up the children's ward in favor of a research laboratory. When there are no more small patients in the hospital, the patroness Carisius will agree to the new use of the room.

While Leonhard and Loni are getting closer, used car dealer Waldemar Kosel is plagued by completely different problems: During a demonstration drive in front of Leonhard and his good friend Walter, the car's brakes failed. Since then he has been in the hospital where Leonhard works with a concussion . The head nurse Hildegart is a kite and makes life difficult for him, and at home his teenage daughter Monika is alone in the apartment. Kosel is worried.

Meanwhile, Monika has the time of her life. Together with neighbor boy Hotte constantly concocts pranks whose victims always the unpopular teacher is Zack gable. Since the children always succeed in appearing innocent at the right moment, Zackgiebel becomes increasingly untrustworthy in the eyes of the senior studies director Breitner, who lives in the same building. As a last measure, Zackgiebel turns to welfare and to Monika's narrow-minded aunt Eva-Maria Luise Klarwein, who has long wanted to withdraw her brother Kosel's guardianship for Monika. At the crucial moment, Leonhard, who happens to be present, can warn the children, this is how the apartment shines, and Monika behaves in an exemplary manner in front of her aunt and the youth welfare officer.

Loni succeeds in pairing Kosel and head nurse Hildegart, and after some misunderstandings between her and Leonhard it comes to a happy ending. Finally, even the children's ward is saved when Hotte, Monika and their friends simulate measles in a spontaneous action . The rooms of the children's ward are so full when Ms. Carisius visits that this money is pledged for an expansion of the ward. Since it turns out that it was not Leonhard who initiated the letter of recommendation from Ms. Carisius to Professor Janssen, but his friend Walter, Leonhard is also professionally rehabilitated in the eyes of Professor Janssen and will be able to lead the children's ward in the future.

production

Title of the film in the opening credits

The shooting took place from April 16 to May 20, 1969 in Munich and the surrounding area as well as in the Munich studio Tulbeckstrasse. The film premiered on July 22, 1969.

Roy Black sings the songs "I love to be with you" and "Your most beautiful gift" in the film. The title "Your most beautiful gift", which is sung several times in the film, reached number 1 in the German charts in 1969 and stayed in the charts for 29 weeks. This made it one of Roy Black's greatest hits. The then child star Wilma Landkroon , who is only mentioned by first name in the opening credits, sings “A wooden shoe with sails”.

criticism

Der Spiegel called our doctor the best on the occasion of a TV performance in 1989 as “Klinik-Klamotte” in which Roy Black was also allowed to sing: “To make matters worse, meritorious comedians like Georg Thomalla , Peter Weck and Käte Haack in this one Stir in the horror cream. "

The lexicon of international films saw in Our Doctor is the Best a "slapstick game". The Protestant film observer doesn't think much of the film either : “Modest, quite harmless and sterile. Unnecessary."

Filmecho / Filmwoche, on the other hand, wrote that successful director Harald Vock had built in all the common gags that seemed possible in a medical environment. Georg Thomalla's comedy is very well received, and Roy Black is also "surprisingly sure."
