Life

She grew up with her brother in Braunschweig, where she attended the Kleine Burg Lyceum , but left of her own volition without a degree. At the age of eleven, she really wanted to become a ballet dancer . She received ballet training and was already on stage at the age of fourteen in the cabaret of the nameless . After completing her acting training, she mainly worked in the theater. In 1937 she made her debut at Theater Neustrelitz , where she stayed until 1938. Other stage stations were the traveling stage in Koblenz, the German Theater in Göttingen (1939/40) and the Theater Breslau (1940 to 1942). Then she played from 1942 to 1946 and 1950 to 1955 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and from 1946 to 1949 at the Kammerspiele in Hamburg, 1949/50 at the State Theater in Stuttgart and from 1956 to 1958 at the Frankfurt Municipal Theaters . She then worked as a freelance artist and worked at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 1962 , most recently at the Residenztheater .

It only became known to a wider audience in the 1960s when it was made into theater films for television . For Peter Schamoni's film Schonzeit für Füchse she received the gold tape for best supporting actress in 1966 . Her best-known role, however, was the role of mother Kempowski in the film adaptations of the autobiographical novels Tadellöser & Wolff and A Chapter for Himself by Walter Kempowski , directed by Eberhard Fechner in the 1970s . In 1978 she played a leading role (Sophie von Quindt) in the multi-part series Jauche und Levkojen based on the novel of the same name by Christine Brückner , directed by Günter Gräwert . She also had guest appearances in the crime series Der Kommissar , Der Alte and Derrick . In 1980 she was awarded the Golden Camera for her television work.

Outstanding film works for the cinema were the Spring Symphony by Peter Schamoni as the mother of Robert Schumann and also as Mrs. Tietze in Oedipussi by Loriot 1988.

Her grave is in the municipal cemetery of Graefelfing in the district of Munich .
