Jan Rys
Jan Rys (born July 22, 1931 in Mährisch-Ostrau ; † November 22, 1986 in Unterrabnitz / Burgenland ; actually Marcel Nerlich ) was an Austrian writer, radio play writer, poet, painter, translator from Czech.
Life
Jan Rys attended German-speaking and Czech high schools. After dropping out of school, he illegally moved to Vienna in 1948 and then to Germany a year later. He got to know Kurt Miethke and Heinz Schwitzke , who promoted his talents. His first publication (“Pfade im Dickicht”) took place in 1955, and in 1960 he achieved international recognition with his radio play “Grenzgänger”, which was translated into 30 languages. More than 50 other radio plays, theater plays and television plays as well as poems and aphorisms followed .
In 1970 Rys settled in Burgenland and founded the International Radio Play Center with Ernst Willner , Günter Unger and ORF .
Rys was the first president of the Burgenland PEN Club.
