Goethe tells his life
Goethe tells his life was a 35-part radio play series by the NWDR by Hans Egon Gerlach with Mathias Wieman in the title role . It was first broadcast in 1949 on the occasion of the poet's 200th birthday. Episode 1 Gestirn - Birth - Childhood was broadcast on January 2nd under the direction of Ludwig Cremer , the last episode The Last Birthday was released - now staged by the main actor - on August 28th.
The radio play, with a total running time of over 25 hours, featured stars of the time such as Horst Caspar , Will Quadflieg , Albert Bassermann and Maria Wimmer , right down to the supporting roles . It resulted in a well-selling book edition, which was published repeatedly until 1982.

Notes: Mathias Wieman spoke Goethe in all parts and also took over the direction from the fourth part. Ludwig Cremer directed the first three parts, which were produced in 1948 . As far as stated in the ARD radio play database, the role designations are noted after the names of the speakers.
