Kathe Haack
Lisbeth Minna Sophie Isolde Käthe Haack , also Käte Haack , (born August 11, 1897 in Berlin ; † May 5, 1986 there ) was a German actress who could look back on a film career of almost 70 years. During this time she played in around 230 film and television productions.
Life
Käthe Haack was the daughter of the cloth merchant and Berlin city councilor Karl Wilhelm Paul Haack and his wife Sophie Margarethe, b. Jahn. After attending a private school in Charlottenburg, she took acting lessons from Seraphine Détschy and Hans Kaufmann. In 1914 she got her first engagement at the Stadttheater Göttingen . From 1915 she played mainly in Berlin. There she appeared especially on the stages of Victor Barnowsky , also at the Theater am Kurfürstendamm , Theater am Schiffbauerdamm , Hebbel-Theater , Theater in Königgrätzer Straße , Volksbühne Berlin and Deutsche Theater .
Her roles included Johanna in Der einsame Weg , Anni in Ferenc Molnár's Play in the Castle , Klärchen at the world premiere of The Merry Vineyard in 1925 and Mathilde Obermüller, the mayor's wife, at the world premiere of Der Hauptmann von Köpenick in 1931 at the Deutsches Theater unter der Directed by Heinz Hilpert . From 1935 to 1944 she was engaged at the Prussian State Theater in Berlin under Gustaf Gründgens .
In 1915 she made her first film appearance. As an extremely versatile actress, she received numerous role offers and was able to continue her career after the silent film era. In 1943 she played Baroness Münchhausen in Münchhausen at the side of Hans Albers . She also succeeded in making the transition from young naive to that of wife and mother. Most recently, Käthe Haack, who continued to be successful as a theater actress in Berlin, was seen as an elegant older lady in television plays.
Important post-war roles at the theater were Mrs. Antrobus in We Got Away Again (1946, Hebbel-Theater), Gina Ekdal in Die Wildente (1948, Renaissance-Theater ), Mrs. Higgins in My Fair Lady (1963, tour with approx. 1500 Performances) and Luise Maske in Carl Sternheim's Der Snob (1966, Renaissance Theater). In addition, Haack took part in numerous tabloids . Guest appearances have taken her to Munich for the Kleine Komödie am Max II .
She was married to the actor Heinrich Schroth (1871-1945) since 1916 . Her daughter Hannelore Schroth (1922–1987) and her stepson Carl-Heinz Schroth (1902–1989) were also well-known actors.
Käthe Haack died in May 1986 at the age of 88 in Berlin. The burial took place in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in today's Berlin-Westend district . The daughter Hannelore Schroth was buried at her side the following year, as was her third marriage son, Christoph Kantapper Köster (1953–2012). By resolution of the Berlin Senate , the last resting place of Käthe Haack (grave location: 16-J-27) has been dedicated as an honorary grave of the State of Berlin since 2018 . The dedication is valid for the usual period of twenty years, but can then be extended.
