Furioso is a German melodrama set in an artistic setting in northern Germany from 1950. Under the direction of Johannes Meyer , whose last cinema production this was, Ewald Balser , Peter van Eyck and Kirsten Heiberg played the leading roles as the woman between two men.

action

Hamburg, at the beginning of the 1950s. Professor Soldin, a famous music teacher, is completely absorbed in his art. He is particularly pleased with the talent of his favorite student Peter von Rhoden. The relationship between men, who are just as completely different as they are of different ages, is severely clouded when one day Isa Soldin, the professor's much younger wife, falls in love with the handsome young musician Peter. He is also not averse, and so the two start a stormy affair. When Professor Soldin finds out, his relationship of trust with his former model student is severely tarnished. Soldin's wife Isa finally leaves her husband in the hope of being able to build a new life together with Peter.

But Soldin knows how to separate the private from the professional and remains the supporting hand of the young Rhoden in the background. Meanwhile, he is making a career as a brilliant pianist and conductor - fame that is based not least on the training by Soldin. But Peter von Rhoden penetrates a second time, albeit now unintentionally, into the professor's life. But this time it has disastrous results. Through his actions, Von Rhoden destroyed the silent love of his patron and master for one of his young students, so that he leaves Soldin behind as a broken man who only sees a way out in suicide. Rhoden also fell in love with the talented colleague. Isa Soldin realizes that she cannot hold Peter and decides to let her lover go.

Production notes

Furioso was created in mid-1950 in the Hamburg film studios von Wandsbek and Rahlstedt as well as with outdoor recordings in Grömitz and in the Hamburg music hall. The premiere took place on November 10, 1950 in Hildesheim; the Berlin premiere was on November 21 of the same year.

Willi Wiesner , whose first film was for his own company, Hamburger Rondo-Film, also took over the production management. Hans Ledersteger designed the film structures implemented by Ernst Richter . Conny Carstennsen was the unit manager.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film gave a succinct verdict: "Banal, pseudo-tragic melodrama that is hardly more enjoyable due to the handsome musical performances."
