Ernst Richter (film architect)

Ernst Richter (born October 28, 1890 in Vienna , † August 8, 1961 in Grünwald near Munich) was an Austrian film architect .

Live and act

Richter studied architecture and painting in Vienna. In 1912 he began his professional life as a painter . He came across Austrian cinematography through the film architect Artur Berger during the silent film era . It was only when the Second World War broke out that Richter began to regularly design film sets and to implement the designs of his colleague Hans Ledersteger .

Richter and Ledersteger remained a permanent team for 18 years; both film structures were built in Munich, Amsterdam, Berlin and (after the war) Hamburg studios. In 1957 Richter's collaboration began with his young colleague Wolf Englert , whose designs he also implemented.
