Hans Ledersteger
Hans Ledersteger (born February 27, 1898 in Vienna , † October 13, 1971 in Bad Ischl ) was an Austrian film architect with a long career in German entertainment cinema.
Live and act
Ledersteger had volunteered on May 15, 1916 with the 14th Infantry Regiment in Linz , then attended the Jägersdorf officers' school (until 1917) and was deployed on the Isonzo Front , among other things . After his demobilization, he attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts , where he studied painting and art history for two semesters , and then moved to the Technical University to take architecture courses.
During this time, Hans Ledersteger had already made contact with film, where he was employed as an assistant architect. For a while, between 1920 and 1922, Ledersteger also provided designs for art glass. In 1926 he was promoted to chief architect and initially designed the decorations for numerous low-budget comedies. After two years in the Netherlands (1933–35), Ledersteger returned to Austria in 1935, where he was now also used for higher-quality films, including the Hans Moser classics Wiener Stichten and Sieben Jahre Pech . From the beginning of the Second World War, Ledersteger also worked for Reich German productions, in 1942 he returned to Amsterdam studios for two (German) films .
At the end of the war, Ledersteger was initially unemployed and tried to stay afloat with all kinds of auxiliary jobs and sideline activities. For a while (1947) he also worked under the artistic director Rochus Gliese as an outfitter at the Landestheater Mark Brandenburg in Potsdam . Ledersteger later moved to Munich, where from 1949 he worked almost exclusively with his colleague Ernst Richter . At the age of 60, Hans Ledersteger retired from film to his native Austria due to illness.
His daughter Ursula Ledersteger made a career as Barbara Valentin as a film and television actress.
