content

Teddy Lemke is a subtenant with Miss Biermann. She took care of six-year-old Ulli, whose mother emigrated to America. Teddy Lemke lovingly takes care of little Ulli as if he were his own son. When Ulli surprised him with a children's clown costume that he accidentally found in the attic, Teddy hesitantly tells his life story: He used to be a famous clown who performed with his son. When the boy died, Teddy ended his career.

Ulli works on Teddy until he returns to his clown role and performs with Ulli. You are successful, there is a sign of commitment. But then Ulli's mother Gerti, who is now married, returns from America to bring her child. Teddy flees with the child from Berlin to Switzerland, pursued by the child's mother, her husband and assistant. Her husband confronts Teddy, whom he initially takes to be the child's father, but then realizes the true circumstances. Ulli moves to America with his parents, and Teddy, who has a heavy heart to accept, gives a solo performance at the end.

Remarks

The film was made in the Atelier Berlin-Pichelsberg with external shots from Berlin-Wedding , Zurich , Lausanne , Locarno , Lugano and Ascona . Hans Ledersteger , Ernst Richter and Peter Schlewski created the buildings. Producer Kurt Ulrich and Hans Lehmann were production managers.

The film made the bedtime song La-Le-Lu, only the man in the moon is watching by Heino Gaze . The song is from 1950.

The film gave Rühmann the opportunity to slip into his declared favorite role: that of a clown. He did this so perfectly that the International Artist Lodge awarded him the Golden Artist Needle - a unique award for an “amateur”.

The Austrian television series of the same name has nothing to do with the film.

In 2005, a remake was made under the direction of Udo Witte , but the content differs significantly from the original.

Awards

The FBL awarded the production the title valuable .
