- January 29th: World premiere of Die Teuflischen (Direction: Henri-Georges Clouzot ). This film, which is considered a classic, shaped the style of the psychological thriller .
- April 13: First screening of the film Rififi (director: Jules Dassin ), which is considered to be a style-defining factor for the Heist film genre .
- December 21: World premiere of Sissi (director: Ernst Marischka ). The first part of the Sissi trilogy with Romy Schneider in the title role is one of the most successful German-language film productions with 20-25 million viewers - ticket sales were not yet fully recorded at the time.
