Niederaden is a south-eastern district or statistical district of Lünen in North Rhine-Westphalia , in which about 2300 inhabitants live. It belongs to the district 1403 Niederaden . In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Niederaden farming community belonged to the Märkisches Amt Unna. Niederaden was incorporated into Lünen on January 1st, 1968. The place forms the eastern border of Lünens to Kamen and also borders in the south on Dortmund-Lanstrop and in the north on the Bergkamen district of Oberaden . To the west is Lünen-Horstmar .

Developed around the goods of the noble houses of Aden / Oberfelde, Niederaden was first mentioned in the 12th century. From the noble house of Oberfelde there is still the Spieker (Low German for 'storage'), built at the beginning of the 17th century on an island in the middle of a moat, but which was also used as a garden pavilion; it is a symbol and part of Niederaden's coat of arms. The Lüner painter Rolf-Dietrich Ratzmann used the Spieker as a studio from 1968 until his death in 1992.

The original, purely rural character of the village was replaced in the middle / end of the 19th century by the coal mining emerging in the neighboring communities - the district still suffers from the long-term effects ( subsidence of the mountains ). The rural character can still be found today through the numerous agricultural areas. In addition to traditional crop production and animal husbandry, a medium-sized tree nursery with a garden center and a potato grower play a role.

In 1849 the community had 270 and in 1910 733 inhabitants. In 1987 the Niederaden district had a total of 1743 inhabitants.

The former Niederaden local politician August Wegmann (1891–1975) was an honorary citizen of the city of Lünen.

Club life

The rich club life typical of the Ruhr area is still evident today (sports club, men's choir, women's choir, Kolping family, shooting club , working dog sports club, rabbit breeder club, table football club).
