biography

Tanya Roberts was born Victoria Leigh Blum in 1955 in the Bronx, the second child to an Irish father and a Jewish mother.

She dropped out of school at 15, hitchhiked across the country, and got married. Her mother later managed to have the marriage annulled. Back in New York, Tanya Roberts married the then psychology student and later screenwriter Barry Roberts at the age of 19, with whom she was in a relationship until his death in 2006. She then took acting classes, kept her head above water as a dance teacher and model, and gained her first experience on stage in off-Broadway productions and commercials . In 1977 she moved to Hollywood with her husband, who wanted to try his hand at screenwriting , to pursue a career there. There followed smaller appearances inTelevision .

The breakthrough meant 1980 the role as one of Charlie's Angels (original: Charlie's Angels ) in the final season of the once successful television series . With her character of Julie Rogers , she replaced Shelley Hack, who had dropped out . Playboy and People magazines put Tanya Roberts on the cover. After Charlie's Angels was dismissed in 1981, Roberts played the leading female role in the fantasy film Beastmaster - The Liberator and in 1984 the title role as female Tarzan in Sheena - Queen of the Jungle . The film fell through with critics and audiences.

Her career high point marked 1985 the role as Bond girl Stacey Sutton in the James Bond film In the Face of Death at the side of Roger Moore . As for Sheena , Tanya Roberts was nominated for the Razzie Award ("Golden Raspberry") for this film as the worst actress of the year .

After her appearance in In the Face of Death , she announced that from now on she would only want to accept film roles in which a shell-less appearance is not the focus. However, there were no corresponding offers. Roberts shot a number of direct-to-video productions with German distribution titles such as Verschwitzte Körper (1987) or Fatale passion (1991). From 1998 to 2001 as well as 2004 she was seen in numerous smaller appearances in the television series The Wild Seventies . She last appeared as an actress in 2005.

On December 24, 2020, Tanya Roberts collapsed and was subsequently admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. On January 4, 2021, her spokesman, Mike Pingel, mistakenly announced that she died in hospital on January 3. Pingel admitted the mistake on the same day and justified the false report with misleading information from her partner Lance O'Brien. On the evening of January 4, 2021, she died of complications from a urinary tract infection , which O'Brien confirmed to the media on January 5, 2021.
