Sheena - Queen of the Jungle is a Adventure of director John Guillermin and the subscriber based on the eponymous comic Will Eisner and Jerry Iger . Her successful comic series appeared between 1938 and 1953 and comprised a total of 186 issues. Sheena was actually called Janet Ames and was a kind of equivalent to Tarzan , as a white girl who was raised by "wild" people from an African tribe. They taught them to fight, hunt and celebrate shamanic rituals. The comic book heroine was wild and indomitable - triumphed over lions, panthers, leopards and mad elephants. She put the craft of the evil whites who invaded her realm, while her friend Bob was only there to get into every conceivable trouble and always to watch her heroic deeds with admiration. Sheena shows drive, initiative and courage - and thus dominates the men instead of having to wait helplessly for a hero.
In addition to the feature film, there is also a 26-part black and white series from 1955/1956 with Irish McCalla and a 35-part television series from 2000 with Gena Lee Nolin . Sheena was also made the title heroine in a series in Pulp magazine that appeared in the United States between 1951 and 1954.
action
Two scientists travel to Africa with their young daughter to study the sacred sands , a magical relic . The two have a fatal accident in a rock grotto, and their little daughter becomes an orphan . A shaman takes care of little Janet and educates her to be a young woman. In her she soon sees the prophesied "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle".
One day when the shaman tries to turn to King Jabalanis to ask for help for her tribe of Sambuli , she is involved in an assassination attempt. She is immediately taken into custody because she is seen as a conspirator of the murder. The murder is observed by reporters Vic Casey and Fletcher, who recorded the event on film and can exonerate the shaman. When they want to take action, Sheena, riding a zebra, frees the shaman, who dies a short time later.
From now on, the reporters and Sheena are hunted by Prince Otwani, who is behind the murder. He hires mercenaries to neutralize the three. They burn the Sambuli village to the ground before they can capture Sheena, Vic and Fletch. Sheena, who can communicate with the animals in one way or another, soon succeeds in rendering the mercenaries harmless by calling for help from birds. When all the mercenaries are finally driven out, Sheena and Vic, who have grown closer in the meantime, are in each other's arms.
Reviews
This B-movie was widely rated as disastrous by all critics.
"A rather elaborately staged adventure film, in whose ridiculously stupid story, however, only the animal scenes captivate."
