King Kong (1976)

King Kong Lives is a 1986 adventure film. This is John Guillermin's sequel to his 1976 film King Kong .

action

King Kong, who fell from the World Trade Center after heavy fire from military helicopters , survived but has been in a coma for ten years. He is kept alive by a heart-lung machine . Since he can only continue to live after this long time through an artificial heart that the vet Amy Franklin wants to implant, a huge amount of blood plasma has to be found, which no normal monkey has in this form. Then the adventurer Hank Mitchell discovered the female giant ape “Lady Kong” purely by chance in the jungle of Borneo, who is now being brought to America.

The artificial heart is transplanted in an operation and the two monkeys are housed separately from each other. However, Lady Kong is very weak after the blood sample. King Kong quickly regains his strength, breaks out and kidnaps the monkey lady. First, Mitchell can prevent the monkeys from being shot at by the military. Amy and Mitchell go in search of the monkeys that the military has pursued. King Kong and Lady Kong spend some time together in a forest and also have physical contact. Amy and Mitchell find the monkeys and watch them without disturbing them. However, the military finds them and the monkeys are sprayed with narcotic gas from military helicopters; Lady Kong is caught, Kong jumps into the river and bumps his head against a stone.

While Lady Kong was imprisoned for the next several months, Kong is believed to be dead. But this roams around and calls the military back on the scene when he shows up in a small town. A group of hobby hunters confronts Kong, who defends himself against them. Amy and Mitchell are also on his heels, they can free Lady Kong with Kong's help, but they cannot prevent Kong from being hunted down by the military with the pregnant Lady Kong on his escape. King Kong defends his family against the military one last time, and when Kong's son is born, the stunned military stops firing. The seriously injured Kong briefly strokes his son, then he succumbs to his injuries.

Lady Kong is returned to Borneo with Kong's son.

background

  • The film turned out to be a commercial flop. It is considered by fans and critics as the worst official King Kong film.
  • A video game based on the film was also released in Japan, where the film appeared as King Kong 2 ; the NES variant was called King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch , the MSX variant was King Kong 2 .
  • Originally it was considered that King Kong Lives should begin with Kong's removal from the World Trade Center . Another idea was for Dwan to return and be devoured by Kong. However, these ideas were rejected again. Instead, it was decided to begin the film with Kong being shot down from King Kong .

reception

"Completely unsuccessful attempt at a parody of the monster film, at best of some entertainment value for naive minds."

The film grossed only $ 4.7 million.
