John David Ashton (born February 22, 1948 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American actor .

Life

John David Ashton was born in Springfield on February 22, 1948. He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Theater.

Ashton's career began with smaller roles in television series, so in 1974 he stood in front of the camera for Kojak and Columbo , among others . Followed by other series appearances in Starsky and Hutch and Dallas , he got a role in a movie. He played the brother of Dennis Quaid in the comedy Four Crazy Types and made his film debut with Daniel Stern . In the science fiction film Buckaroo Banzai Ashton had a role opposite Jeff Goldblum , Peter Weller and Christopher Lloyd . John Ashton's breakthrough came in 1984 with the role of Detective Sergeant John Taggart in Beverly Hills Cop . There he played a trio of police officers with Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold . In the 1986 adventure film King Kong Lives by John Guillermin , Ashton can be seen as Colonel, who is killed by King Kong.

With Lea Thompson he was in the comedy Isn't she wonderful? front of the camera before it a year later in the sequel to Beverly Hills Cop by Tony Scott starred. He then starred in Midnight Run (with Dennis Farina and Robert De Niro ) directed by Martin Brest , the two previously worked together on the first part of Beverly Hills Cop . In the television movie Steven, he played the father of the kidnapped Steven (played by Corin Nemec ). Tommyknockers - The 1993 Monster was a film adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name , in which Ashton also starred.

He starred with Nicolas Cage and Jon Lovitz in the critically acclaimed adventure comedy Blizzard in Paradise . This was followed by television films and small guest appearances in television series until he was given a role in the film Instinct directed by Jon Turteltaub (with Anthony Hopkins , Cuba Gooding junior and Donald Sutherland ). There he played the sadistic guard Dacks. In Ben Affleck's directorial debut , Gone Baby Gone , he starred alongside Ed Harris , Morgan Freeman and Casey Affleck as a police officer.
