Raymond Fellay

Raymond Fellay (born January 16, 1932 in Verbier ; † 1994 ) was a Swiss ski racer .

Fellay was Swiss champion in giant slalom in 1955 and 1956 . He achieved the greatest success of his career in 1956 at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo , when he won the silver medal behind Austrian Toni Sailer in downhill skiing . This remained the only medal for the Swiss men's team.

In the same year he and his wife Monique opened a sports shop in their hometown Verbier .

In mid-March 1966 he, who was now a ski instructor, was hit by an avalanche near Verbier and thrown against a rock, injuring his thigh. Fellay was able to hold on to the surface of the avalanche and free himself on his own.
