Daniel Stern (actor)
Daniel Jacob Stern (born August 28, 1957 in Bethesda , Maryland ) is an American actor . He achieved fame primarily as the burglar Marv in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel Kevin - Alone in New York (1992).
Life
Born into a Jewish family, Stern got into the acting business when he applied for a stage technician at the Shakespeare Festival in Washington DC and was hired as an extra instead . Encouraged by the experience of this engagement, he took acting lessons and began appearing in on and off Broadway productions. In 1979 he first appeared in a film in Breaking Away . This film was a surprise success, brought back ten times its budget and won several film awards. He had his acting breakthrough in Barry Levinson's American Diner . After that he appeared mostly in action films until the 1990s. In 1988, for example, he starred in DOA - Dead on Arrival ( DOA - On Arrival Mord ; directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel; with Meg Ryan , Dennis Quaid , Charlotte Rampling ) an ambitious university lecturer in literature who murdered a student out of glory for himself to acquire the manuscript of his first literary work, which in his eyes was a brilliant achievement, in order to publish it under his own name. From 1988 to 1993 star was the voice of the adult Kevin Arnold in the series "The Wonder Years" ( " The Wonder Years ").
Stern became known to a wide audience mainly because of his portrayal of clumsy, albeit lovable idiots like Phil in City Slickers - Die Großstadt-Helden (with Jack Palance and Billy Crystal ) and crook Marv of the burglar duo, the wet bandits and the sticky bandits in the first both parts of the home-alone films. In the original version of the television series The Wonder Years ( The Wonder Years ) he put his voice for the part of the narrator available, which reports as a grown man from retrospective perspective on events and vicissitudes of his youth. He also directed several episodes of the series . For the cartoon series Dilbert he took over the dubbing part of the title character.
