action

The American Julia Reynolds is extremely unhappy in her marriage. Her husband, Jack, is a boring insurance clerk who is more interested in puzzles than them. Nevertheless, Julia, her husband and their children travel to Malta on vacation.

What nobody knows: 25 years ago Julia had a passionate love affair with the Frenchman Alex Belmont on this island. At that time, they both promised to meet again in Malta after 25 years. In Alex's hotel, however, she discovers him with a young woman and turns around disappointed. The next day she remembers that this woman could have been his daughter and meets him again at her meeting place, a café. After she learns that it is his young mistress and she mentions in return that she is married, the two part in an argument.

Without warning, Alex suddenly appears in Julia's holiday villa and introduces himself to the family as an old friend. When Julia shows him the house, he kisses passionately in the bedroom. After Jack sees through his wife's wrong game, he checks into the same hotel as Alex, deeply disappointed. There he meets the redheaded Grace. The way seems free for Julia and Alex.

Julia still has to think about her husband all the time and Alex cannot deal with this situation. Both decide to return to their partners. After a clarifying conversation with Jack, who slept with Grace, the world is all right again for Julia. The next morning, however, Jack hasn't changed at all. Julia prevails, so that the entire family drives to the coast before leaving. But Jack and the kids are bored and prefer to go to a restaurant.

Julia discovers the beach where she and Alex slept together 25 years ago. There she meets a young man whom she instructs to bring her husband a letter that ends her marriage.

She visits the café again and meets Alex there, who was also unable to leave. Meanwhile, Jack and Grace get closer again at the airport.

criticism

“A lady in her prime is confronted with the opportunity to correct an important personal decision in this comedy comedy composed and directed by a lady in her prime. The tone is anything but thoughtful, the mood and types are more reminiscent of a sitcom. Juliet Stevenson looks familiar to romantics from 'Mona Lisa's Smile', Daniel Stern ('City Slickers') lets the slapstick run free, and Gaul's super villain Tcheky Karyo ('Nikita') presents his hitherto cleverly hidden comic side. "

“Joan Carr-Wiggins, who wrote, directed, and directed the film, wanted to tell the story of a mature woman who finally had to take control of her life. The cast of the characters is excellent: British actress Juliet Stevenson ('Mona Lisa's smile') fits perfectly for the role of Juliet and is supported by the two 'Romeos' - Daniel Stern ('Kevin at home') and Tchéky Karyo ('The Three Musketeers') - well supported. In addition, the director uses a lot of clever situational and pun that contrasts the characters' actual despair wonderfully. "
